Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Chest While Doing A Physical Activity

I was diagnosed with chest wall inflammation after examination at a hospital for possible heart attack. That was 12 months ago and I still have pain 5/10 most of the day, if I lift or weed the garden it intensifies to 9-10/10. The only position that helps is to lie on my bed at 45degree angle and not use my left arm. What can I take to help reduce the pain? I fight depression constantly now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of chest wall inflammation & pain chest that continues you should avoid working in the garden or doing any heavy work.

There is absolutely no need to get depressed, get treated at the earliest. Chest wall inflammation & pain can be due to lungs, GI, cardiovascular or muscular problems. Though at times it can be indicative of heart attack.

You are suggested to get physically examined by a cardiologist. You will have to go through chest X-Ray, nerve conduction velocity tests, electromyography, sympathetic skin response, musculoskeletal USG & blood tests to check your lipid profile, ECG, echo, etc.

Your treatment will depend upon the factor causing you discomfort. You may take analgesics & antacids for relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
