Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Hip

Hi, I am having pain in my hip that goes down my leg to the back of my knee and sometimes all the way to my foot. The pain is horrible !! It hurts when I m sitting, and it s pretty much constant. This just started about 3 days ago after working out in the garden. I have been applying ice and heat which gives some relief. But it s to the point that ibuprofen and Tylenol isn t cutting it anymore. Any suggestions would be great !!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptom looks like acute sciatica. Do stretch exercises & walking to relieve your Piriformis muscle. Sometimes this muscle gets inflamed & presses against the sciatic nerve.

In my opinion, you should visit ER, get physically examined & assessed for sciatica. Your treating doctor will tell you to do X-ray & MRI.

You will be treated according to the severity detected (medications, exercises, surgery, physical therapy, CBT etc).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
