i am a 51 year old female with copd and emphysema. i am running a temp 101. i have a steady bad pain in my upper left sideback it goes around my left side rib cage. it really hurts to cough which i am also doing can u give me a clue as to what it could be. and no i dont smoke I quit 4 years ago

Hi welcome to the health care magic

Emphysema condition that you have can lead such problem....

And here you should rule out secondary infective etiology like Bronchitis or pneumonia...

Your work up should be done in following ways...
-Auscultation
-Chest x ray
-Spirometry
-CBC

Based on these investigation your further treatment plan can be decided...

If high neutrophil and more count than antibiotic can be prescribed...

If rhonchi heard than bronchodilator ipratropium bromide like inhaler prescribed
