Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Upper Back

I have had pain in my upper back for 5yrs+, I have been treating it with a heating pad. When I went to my primary care physician he thought it was shingles but I dont think shingles lasts this long or continually. I dont want to go back to him unless I have some knowledge of what might be happening. I have had back problems most of my life and have had a neck fusion.

Hello,

Treatment for pain in the upper back depends on the cause. The cause of such symptoms are degenerative disc disease, slipped disc, OA, muscle spasms, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray, MRI / CT done. If the pain is due to muscle strain, heat therapy and gentle massage with pain relieving ointment will work. If it is due to slipped discs, etc., it will be accordingly treated. You may be referred to an Orthopedics.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the most useful test for confirming cases of suspected herpes zoster pain without rash or blister. If you have blisters your treating doctor may also take a tissue scraping or culture of the blisters for examination in the laboratory. You will be accordingly treated. At present you can take Combiflam / Naproxen, one stat when needed to relieve pain. Take food rich in vitamin B6, B12 or supplements. Stay away from addictions if any & avoid sedentary life.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
