Suggest Treatment For Pain On Side Of Face And Aches

I m a 72 yr old female, generally in good health (except for diabetes, controlled and hypertention, controlled). I have had pain on the left side of my face since March. Sometimes it is an ache, sometimes it is a sharp pain. I had sinus surgery in mid-December at a local hospital. I use hot packs for pain relief and also use Ora Gel rubbed into the soft tissue of my mouth to numb the pain. It starts in mid-afternoon and continues into the evening and overnight hours. I take Excedrin for pain, and also Lyrica at night before bed (I have Fibromyalgia).

Hi,

There are several possible causes for pain on one side of the face, including dental issues, sinus problems, nerve disorders, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Given that you recently had sinus surgery, the pain may be related to that procedure, but it is also possible that it is due to another underlying condition.

One possible cause of facial pain is trigeminal neuralgia, which is a nerve disorder that can cause severe, shooting pain in the face. This condition is typically treated with medications such as anticonvulsants or tricyclic antidepressants, or in more severe cases, surgery.

If the pain is related to TMJ dysfunction, treatment may include jaw exercises, physical therapy, and medications such as muscle relaxants or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Consult a medical professional to know the cause of the pain and create a treatment plan. In addition to the treatments mentioned above, other interventions may be effective, such as acupuncture or nerve blocks. Your doctor may also recommend a referral to a specialist, such as a neurologist or an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
