Hi.
Thanks for the query..
As per your complain it seems that you have a
GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL NEURALGIA which occurs due to some defects associated with
Glossopharyngeal Nerve which is a 9th
Cranial Nerve and occurs due to a few reasons like:
1.Any artery pressing over the nerve..
2.Any tumour or infections in mouth compressing or irritating the nerve..
3.Growths at the base of skull..
It can lead to episodes of severe electrifying pain in throat, tongue, ear which can last for few minutes to hours and even days..
You should consult a NEUROPHYSICIAN and get evaluated and he/she can advise you to get MRI or CT SCAN done to rule out the cause of pain and in case of Glossopharyngeal neuralgia the physician can advise you with anticonvulsants like
Gabapentin can be advised as regular painkillers like tylenol,
ibuprofen and aspirin are not effective..
Other medications like Baclofen, Lamotrigene and Carbamazipine can also be advised..
In case if the pain does not subside by medicines then the surgical approach is done..
MICROVASCULAR DECOMPRESSION in case if there is a compressing artery is there is done by a Neurosurgeon..
Removal of tumors compressing the nerve is done if tumors are the cause..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
