Suggest Treatment For Pain Under The Shoulder Blade

I am having pain under my left shoulder blade, this is a pain I have experienced this pain or discomfort many time before, but as long ago as a year. Additionally my mom has had this pain when I was younger I was told it was gas. I have been told that gas or a gas pocket can occur in the body cavity. Years ago my mother would take charcoal pills but now with the internet and the availability of more information I would like to look to find out if it is just that, a gas pocket?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history related to pain under left shoulder blade, thought about gas as explained by your mother, wants to know more.
The recurring pain that occurs in the same spot again and again are usually due to Repetitive stress injury or fibromyalgia.
There is no role of local gas pockets as such pockets do not develop at all.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for examination and undergo any investigations as needed.
There may be a trigger point that can be found on palpation and local steroid injection may give you a long relief.
Take anti-inflammatory medications.
Oral steroids and antioxidants may help further.
Avoid any activities that increase your pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
