Thank you for your question as i understand the concern that the painful swelling may be causing.

From your question it appears that what you have is a Bartholin's abscess. This occurs when the opening of the bartholin ducts(passages) become blocked leading to the accumulation of the fluid meant to be drained out. This fluid is meant to keep the vagina moist. The accumulation then causes a painful swelling that you have described which later ruptures when the accumulated fluid is in excess.

For the best treatment options of this and also to avoid recurrence of the same which you have experienced,i would advise you to visit the hospital.

Under a local anaesthetic(to reduce any pain during the procedure)they will incise and drain the swelling, thoroughly clean it and due to its recurrence they will stich the margins of the swelling to the surrounding skin(a process called marsupialization).
This will allow easy drainage from the glands and prevent future accumulations of fluid and pus thus less painful swellings.

Sitz baths(sitting on warm salty water)will also be encoraged to ensure a clean surrounding.

Antiobiotics may also be given as well as a mild pain killer.
