Suggest Treatment For Painful Ingrown Toenail

the toenail on my big toe was ingrown almost a year ago. Now the nail seems to be growing backwards and not forward. It is longer than the toe on my other foot but at the back - not the front. Also, it seems to be unattached on the front half of the nail and is becoming painful at the back. Is this possible and who should I see for what treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should see a dermatologist as soon as possible as you might need prescription meds. Depending on the changes, you should be prescribed accurate topical treatment, but first should get a physical examination.

Meanwhile, I can only advise to soak your foot with ingrowing toenail inside warm water with a bit of baking soda and vinegar for at least 15 minutes prior to applying topical treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
