Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I turned 51 back in March and For the past year it hurts during penetration when I have sex with my husband. It really affects my intimacy with my husband because I know it s going to hurt so I try to distract my husband away from sex or just tell him no. My gyno said there was nothing I could do about it, that I would just have to deal with the pain. Is that true?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. It is quite natural for any women to have painful inter course after the age of 50. You would have attained menopause, Even otherwise estrogen secretion would decline leads to atrophy (shrinkage) of vagina and decreased lubrication. That would be the cause of pain during intercourse. IF YOU GAVE UP SEX THE ATROPHY WILL BE FASTER. so continue to have sex with applying adequate lubricating vaginal creams as per the advice of your Gynecologist. Dr S.Murugan
