Suggest Treatment For Painful Knee Due To Osteoarthritis And Fibromyalgia

I have osteo arithitis. My left knee feels swollen behind and to the outside an hurts to walk. The front of my right knee hurt to walk. MRI ruled out any tear in left knee, just sprained . l was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago, but these issues seemed to come on suddenly the last few weeks and getting worse pain, not subsiding. When I use pressure with my wrists the feel like they are brittle. My toes and front bottom of my feet suddenly became numb almost a year ago. My fingers go to sleep/tingle holding a book or driving after 10 minutes. In 1983, my gynecologist diagnosed me with lupus (after my last childbirth). But my internist said no. 2 years ago my pcp again (blood tests) said I have lupus and sent me to a rheumatologist who said no, it s fibromyalgia. He gave me lyrica 75mg twice daily, meloxicam 15mg once a day, and 1 soma at bedtime. I don t even think the meds, except soma, help. Soma gives me usually a good 4 hours straight sleep. I get sudden left shoulder pain that only lasts a few minutes, my hip goes out or hurts at times. I feel like nothing is wrong with me but the fibromyalgia and I m getting old, 65, and just deal with it. I think fibromyalgia is something that is named when the dr doesn t believe nothing is seriously wrong. But when I m alone I get frustrated and sad.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The knee pain is probably rleated to osteoarthritis.
I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Acetominophen three times a day.
I also suggest using cold compresses for local application.
If the symptoms conitnue you should see a rheumatologist and get evalauted.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
