Suggest Treatment For Painful Left Knee Due To Arthritis
I have arthritis in my knees. I am 63 years old. 3 months ago, after playing basketball (I know, but I beat my son in law and grandson...and I am an obese woman) my left knee became so painful I couldn t put any weight on it. I had to crawl up the steps to bed. Next day, I went to er, had to get wheelchair. xray showed arthritis and high kneecap. Rx was aleve and painpills. It has gotten somewhat better, but right knee is very painful now also though n ot as bad as the left was. I am living on ibuprofin, taking 400mg every 8 hours. what could this be?
You have a history of arthritis and high knee cap. Presently you have pain and swelling in the affected knee. You are suggested to continue taking prescription medicines, anti inflammatory and use knee brace for relieve.
Corticosteroid injections into the knee are effective. Hyaluronic acid injections are also used to treat knee pain for RA or OA. Once the swelling and pain get reduced you are suggested to take the help of physical and occupational therapy, reduce weight if obese, take vitamin E supplements.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
