Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This is my second time having pericarditis. No effusion this time but very painful. My cardiologist said the ECHO showed thickening consistent with pericarditis. I have had this for three weeks have been put on merrily pack no improvement then I was put on colchicine bid for 10 days which I just finished 10th day and now I will take it one daily for a month. Still am having pain but not as severe as was when first came on. I also have had history of spontaneuous pneumothoraxes with thoracotomy and pleurodesis on the right 17 years ago. My question what is my next step to try to figure out why? I think I have been tested for RA and was beg. What kind of doctor would you recommend or other labs?
Recurrent Pneumo thorax and pericarditis suggests inflammation of serous coverings (serositis). Here we have to evaluate mainly for connective tissue disorders like RA and SLE. Reports of inflammatory markers like ESR, CRP will give some insights. Kindly discuss with a rheumatologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
