Suggest Treatment For Painful Pimple On Cheek

Morning, I developed a assess on my cheek from a pimple. Went to Dr 2 days ago as it was quite swollen. I subsequently have also caught my daughters respiratory infection I was prescribed forcid soluble antibiotics and have been taking them for 2 days. My problem is the swelling is worse, pain unbearable and my throat glands started swelling so when I cough it s a nightmare. Does this thing need draining and if so can they do it in consultation room.

Hello,
Welcome to healthcaremagic

I would keep a possibility of Furuncle/boil, which is bacterial infection of the hair follicle with surrounding cellulitis.

The infection usually gaining entry through the hair follicle.

The best way to approach is to start on an empirical oral antibiotic for minimum 5 to 7 days (Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg daily three times or cephalexin 500mg twice daily or cefadroxil 500mg twice daily).

This would take care of the infection.

You are on the right antibiotic which you are taking tab.forcid and I would suggest that you continue with it for a another 5 to 7 days.

Antibiotics should be taken up to 7 days to produce a noticeable improvement.

An OTC antibacterial cream/ointment e.g 2% mupirocin can be applied twice daily.

An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen once or twice daily would help you deal with the pain and reduce swelling and discomfort

If the lesion doesn't respond or continue to enlarge, it may have to be incised to drain the pus.For which you may need to see dermatologist for once.

Regards
