Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling In Toenail

Had an ingrown toenail for sometime now, was on antibiotics due to infection but was cleared up. No further treatment was suggested. The pain and swelling did not go away, right now its particularly painful, swollen and purple. Why? and what to do about it?
