Suggest Treatment For Pemphigus Bullous Type 2

My 91 year old mother was diagnosed w/ pemphigous bullous type 2 years ago by her dermatologist. She has been treated w/ topical steroid creams. I m finding that her flare ups are occurring more frequently and now may involve her mouth/ has tongue blisters. She has a flare up @ the present time. She was placed on b12 supplements about 6 mos ago for insufficiency. Today she was taken to ENT as she was c/o pain of her tongue. She was dx w/ oral thrush but the ENT specialist claims he is not an expert @ diagnosing pemphigous w/oral involvement. Her primary MD hasn t been treating this issue as he thinks this is more in the domain of her dermatologist. Who may I seek for treatment of these issues? A Rheumatologist? Thank you.

I understand your concern. Bullous pemphigoid is an autoimmune condition with known flare ups and remissions depending on body immunity status. Thus makes it frustrating to deal with The fact that her frequency of flare ups are increasing warrants oral medications along with topical steroid creams to suppress the flare ups. But considering her age, she may or may not be eligible for these medications. To the best of my knowledge, I advise you to consult your dermatologist who can help you prescribe the right immunosuppressive for her age and medical condition which will take care of both her skin and oral problems.
