Suggest Treatment For Persistent Chest And Rib Cage Pain

I have iced any ares that were in pain and I ve taken ibueprophen and if that wasnt working I d wait until I could take something else and try something different (I ve tried tylenol, aleve, and advil none have worked). It started some time last year and I don t know what started it but I m basically always experiencing some type of pain somewhere in my body and it s always either an ache, throb, or shooting pain. I pretty much just ignore it most of the time but occasionally it will get really bad and I tell someone and take a pain reliever. For around a year my knees and hips have been popping and cracking several times an hour, and i experience shooting pains going from my knee to my hip. My shoulders also pop or crack but those don t usually hurt. I ve been experiencing chest pain a lot recently and today i don t know why but my left rib cage was aching when I would take a breath, it gradually got worse and felt like my chest was tight and there was pressure, when I breathe there s a sharp pain towards the top front of my rib cage. I don t always tell my mom cause she usually just tells me I m fine and that it s probably just indegestion or something and gives me an alka-seltzer but those don t do anything and she still says I m fine. I also experience lightheadedness, I thought I might be dehydrated but I ve been drinking a good amount of water and it s not getting better. I don t even know if some of these symptoms are related but I m just describing all of them because they might be and I don t want to leave out anything important. When I sit down for too long my legs fall asleep, even if they aren t bent at any weird angles, and there isn t any pressure applied to them. I m almost always tired even though I almost always get at least 8 hours of sleep. I have an incredibly irregular period, I ve had it for 16 days on 2 occasions before and I ve been on birth control for 2 years now trying to control it. Sometimes I get it 2 times in one month and sometimes I don t get it for 3 months. My mother was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome not too long ago and my doctor told me I have a chance of having it but I haven t seen a specialist yet but I have been keeping track of my periods and my symptoms each day I have it. My hands are also almost always freezing cold I don t really know if that s relevant to anything but my teacher said I should see a doctor and I thought I d bring it up now since I m on a roll. Oh and I used to go to physical therapy for my knee and hips because my hips are too weak to pull my kneecap forward so they re to the side, and I walk supposedly walk funny. Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this, I might just be over dramatic I don t know anymore but this has really been bothering me and my mother has 5 kids and she s too busy for me to be bothering her with all of this. I just want to know what s going on. Sorry for the lack of proper grammar in the mini novel I just wrote you. And thanks again.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It might be a condition called costochondritis.

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated,

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
