Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Cold

Hi, I just swabbed my ear with a qtip and it came out with (dark-ish ) red blood on it - not a lot but enough to make me wonder what is wrong. I ve had (maybe allergies) /a cold/cough for over a month, I don t know if the two are related. just wondering if I need to get help or just leave it alone? Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, two of them can be related, many times cold, cough and allergies can cause infection in ear leading to pain, blood and pus discharge.

Many times if you put a q-tip deep inside the ear then it can also cause bleeding of the ear. So, first of all, you should get an Otoscopic examination of the ear so that the exact cause of bleeding can be ruled out.

In case if there is infection then a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and antibiotic ear drops can be advised. If needed manual cleaning of the ear can also be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
