Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a terrible cough for about a week. I have been to the doctor and since there wasn t a fever or green mucous he seems to think it is viral and recommended waiting to start an antibiotic (he did give me an RX for one just in case). The cough is not going away and I have a raspy feeling in my chest with headache and just overall fatigue. Recommendations?
Most cough and cold symptoms are due to viral infection as may have been mentioned by your doctor.
With a headache and fatigue, you may have the flu more than the cold. The flu is also a viral illness but the symptoms tend to be more severe. If the cough is wet, you would need a mucolytic if you are not currently using one.(eg bisolvan or mucomyst or guaifenesin).
Fluids and rest are also important. If you still feel very unwell, you should fill the antibiotic prescription to see if this helps relieve your symptoms
I hope this helps
