Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Swelling In Face

My husband had pneumonia in late July which lingered into late August on two different courses of antibiotics. Ever since then, he has a persistent cough and now his face is swollen. He has not been back to the doctor since August.. Could this still be pneumonia lingering on in his lungs?

Hello,
There is a definite irritation present. Swelling of the face is a sign of an active infection. There are resistant strains of bacteria that can cause a lingering condition and possible current pneumonia in the lungs. Relapse is possible. Is your husband up to date with his dental care? An oral abscess can cause swelling and irritation. Are sinuses clear? Post nasal drip can irritate the throat. Exposure to irritants should be evaluated and avoided. Review your husband's current condition with his treating doctor to determine the best steps to eliminate this discomfort and determine if additional diagnostic tests are needed. Rule out possible allergies by evaluating any changes made in products used or food consumed. Your husband should keep well hydrated and make sure to have a diet with balanced vitamins including adequate vitamin B12. Anti-inflammatories such as Tylenol or Advil may reduce inflammation.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope this is helpful.
