Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough, Cold And Sore Throat

I ve had a cough that s been lingering for several weeks. I was really sick in October for about a week, office was hit with a virus and half got better and then a week went by and I relapsed again. I rarely get sick, it was a bad chest cold, what it felt like. Sore throat, temperature. I ve had allergy related issues as well. I have a cough again and it really bothers me in the morning and I can t stop coughing but I don t have a temperature, chest doesn t hurt. I do feel like my throat is swollen and when I take a deep breath, a slight wheeze, a little scared when I eat make sure I take small bites.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
Persistent cough, cold and sore throat may be caused by a respiratory infection. Most of these infections are of viral origin and may need only symptomatic management. However, bacteria infection or superinfection are possible and will need antibiotics. With a past history of viral infection, it may just be a relapse or a bacteria superinfection or just allergy.I will suggest you see the Doctor for examination and a throat swap smear test/culture given that symptoms are persisting.
In the meantime, you may try the following:
-Take an antihistamine like loratadine
-A steroid like prednisolone
-A mucolytic like carbocysteine 5%
-Gargle with warm salt water many time per day
-Avoid environmental irritants like dust, cold and smoke
Further management may be after throat examination and tests by your Doctor.
Hope this will help
Wish you a speedy recovery
