Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough While On Tylenol
For more than a week now, I ve been coughing & coughing and my sputum runs from Dark green; Green to lighter green/gray. Mainly during the day. I had been recovering from similar symptoms between Christmas to mid Feb. Earlier my primary MD said he couldn t prescribe Antibiotics because my condition didn t meet criteria for either Bacterial or Viral infections and that I should just take over counter Tylenol and syrups. I have no fever nor wheezing. What do you suggest? Thank you, Gerry Robert
First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, you may need to have chest X-ray and sputum cultures to rule out any signs of lower respiratory tract infection.
Antibiotics will be needed if so and cultures can help with it to decide exact bug and antibiotics it's responsive to.
Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen and sputum expectorant like ammonium chloride or N acetyl cystine sachet may be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
