Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough With Cold, Fever And Sore Throat
Why is there a high pitched squeal when I cough? For the past 8 days I have a bad cold, no fever, very little sneezing, occasional nose blowing, throat sore only when coughing--which is not constant but fairly often. Also, I have started coughing up greenish/yellow mucous for the past 2 days. I have been taking the full dose of mucinex every 12 hours. At night I also take Actifed and 2 nights ago added a cough suppressant. The very top of my throat is starting to feel tight, but I can still swallow and breathe easily. Do I need to take something to open the lungs like asthma patients do?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to bacterial respiratory infection. Greenish , yellowish mucous signifies that. Antibiotic therapy is needed for this. I would suggest antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav in such case. This is a prescription drug given in dosage of 625 mg twice daily for 5 to 7 days. You will also need bronchodilators like levosalbutamol and anti histamines like cetrizine.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
