Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dizziness

For the last forty years or so I have occasionally (a time or two a year) experienced periods of dizziness that have lasted anywhere from a few days to a week. However, over the last couple of months my recent dizziness has been more consistent, generally occurring when I lie down and mostly when I roll to one side or another. A few weeks ago I tried the Epley maneuver, and it seemed to more or less resolve the issue, though not completely. Yesterday, during a lengthy dental appointment when the dental chair was tilted way back this issue really became stirred up. It settled enough for me to drive home. I did the Epley, and as the day progressed seemed to feel better. But this morning I awoke to dizziness and feeling clammy. I finally dry heaved a bit, and now feel somewhat better. But I m really getting tired of not feeling well or not knowing when this dizziness is going to interrupt my day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Persistent dizziness can be due to vertigo, an inner ear problem. Get examined by an ENT specialist, get all neurological tests done CT, MRI & audiometry. You may need physiotherapy and medications, Meclizine is the drug of choice, other medications can be given if you have nausea or vomiting.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle, keep your blood sugar & cholesterol levels under control, do regular exercises. Avoid alcohol, smoking or addiction to drugs if any.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
