Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Cough And GERD
I have had a dry persistent cough when I try to talk for 4 months now. Been to doctor three times. Ruled out asthma, copd, changed blood pressure mediction (Hyzaar), and now tyring a medication for Gurd. Still the same. Feel great. Negative x ray. I have had a heart beat that skips occasionally they say. Had it for years. I feel great at 73. Lots of energy. So can this cough be associated with anything to do with the heart? Do I need to go to an ear, nose, throat specialist?
1. If I was your caring doctor, would advise to run further tests to rule out: - heart problems: ECG, cardiac echo, stress test, Holter monitoring - GERD: upper endoscopy - throat issues: ENT examination
2. For the moment, I advise to: - continue medications for GERD (including PPIs) - avoid foods that would irritate and aggravate dry cough - increase water intake - do not lay down immediately after eating - sleep with raised head
Hope it was of help!
