Suggest Treatment For Persistent Knee And Ankles Pain

Eight years ago I had a bite (tick). Black center, wheel, edema, lasted a few weeks and then slowly resolved. Seven years ago I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery. I also developed over nite level 8 - 10 pain in knees and ankles. RF was 889. Have been on every RA med since with no results. Now it is getting worse and I have been on Humira for 8 months. I just don t feel good and my mobility and ADL activity poor. My last RF 3 months ago was 543. My PCP and 2 Rheumatologists say there isn t anything they can do for. HELP. I have been a practicing RN for 42 years. I recently went on disability due to the mobility status. I was very active prior and need help to get back to life before. Can you give me any suggestions ? I did have test for Lyme Disease that was negative, and thus ruled-out by the doctors. Thank you, Joann

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, the immune cells attack the joints causing inflammation, swelling and pain. It may lead to permanent damage if not treated. Take NSAIDs for relief from pain, do regular exercises, exercises reduce swelling, inflammation and pain. Do stretch exercises, walking, aerobics, etc. Take the help of a physiotherapist.

You should get physically evaluated and get MRI, CT, X-rays and imaging tests done. Rheumatoid arthritis is treated with medications, physical therapy, injections and if required surgeries.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
