Suggest Treatment For Persistent Nerve Pain

I had shingles in 1995 or so, with the blisters and nerve pain. Ten years ago, I had the same nerve pain in the same location (around my trunk, mostly on my back). Two days ago, I am experiencing the same thing AGAIN! No blisters yet, but it feels just like it did it he first time I had it. I m a 69 year old female. I have never had the shingles shot . Would that be recommended. I never thought I would get it the second time let alone the third! I was diagnosed with dilated viral cardiomyopathy in 2002 with an ejection fraction of 15-20; now it s about 35-40. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to shingles pain. I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg to relieve the pain. If the symptoms continue, I suggest using prescription pain killers such as Gabapentin. I also suggest using Acyclovir cream for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
