Suggest Treatment For Persistent Pus Cells In Stool Of An Infant

Hello doc..my 5 months breastfeed baby had frequent loose stool on 26th Nov 2015. She was prescribed z&d drops 1ml a day. Then it turned green on 29th dec. So we got her stool test done and found 8-10 pus cells. She was recommended cefadur rediuse 1ml twice a day for 5 days. But today is 8th Dec and she still has loose green stool. Can you please suggest the cause and remedy? Also her second stool test done on 5th dec shows increase in pus cells and 1% reducing substance.

Hi, I would rather suggest you to look for any other associated symptoms such as fever, mucous in stool or blood mixed stools. Microscopic presence of pus cells is not a cause of concern until the baby is active and taking adequate feed. In this age group of children, it may happen. Most of these illnesses are viral in origin and self limiting. Look for adequate urination and appetite of children. Maintain proper nourishment and hydration. If your child becomes restless, stop feed or doesn't urinate, them urgent medical attention is required.
