Suggest Treatment For Persistent Rashes At The Corners Of The Mouth
My 13 yr daughter has had persistant minor chapped, rash for several weeks only on the corners of her mouth. She has a nice, smooth completion, with a few blemishes on her forehead mostly. She uses medicated chapped stick regualarly and washes her face with 1-2 x a day with Cetaphil Oil control form wash & moisturizer recommended Dermatologist. The sores only form on the corners of mouth. Please help.
It looks like your daughter is suffering from Angular Cheilitis causing rashes on the corners of lips along with chapped lips and can occur due to a number of common causes Iron deficiency or Anemia, fungal infection, herpes virus infection causing cold sores, loss of teeth leads to folds of skin at the mouth corners, systemic diseases like Coeliac disease etc..
You should consult the skin specialist again and get evaluated and he can advise you blood tests and microscopy of scrapings from the area to rule out the exact cause.. Treating the underlying problem that is causing the symptoms will help in its resolution..
You can also apply a thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the corners to relieve the dryness and lubricate the area.. Do cool compresses.. A low potency steroid ointment along with antibiotic ointment can also be advised.. Take multivitamin tablet for 15 days.. Drink plenty of water..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
