Suggest Treatment For Persistent Skin Irritation On The Stomach Despite Using Neosporin And Polysporin

My boyfriend has a skin irritation or rash going on his stomach. It s been there for about two months and it doesn t seem to be going away. It s cracking and skin is peeling off and there are small bumps all around it. He complains of it itching and at times being painful(where the cracks are). We have tried all sorts of over the counter topical ointments neosporin, polysporin, bactine, cortisone, gold bond with lidocaine, aloe, and lotrimin. We don t know if it should be bandaged up with gaze or have it aired out and we don t know what to apply on it to help. What should we do?

Hi,

It may be contact allergic dermatitis. Consult the dermatologist. Avoid soap bath. Avoid all dietary factors which may be responsible for the triggering the disease. Apply mild steroid. Give him oral steroids like methyl prednisolone 4 mg thrice for five days..then taper one tablet at five days. Antihistaminics like cetirizine 10 mg at night may be given.

Hope this helps.
