Suggest Treatment For Persistent Sore Throat And Dizziness In A Teenager

My typically active 13 year old has been sick for a couple weeks+. started with a head cold and sore throat. Continued with dizziness, vomiting (4-5 days), headache, fatigue. He s been seen twice. First dr. said no sinus infection but wrote a prescription for Augmentin. Second visit nurse practitioner - did blood work (4-5 days ago) white count normal. He continues to have these symptoms sans the vomiting. we did start the prescription 2 days ago. The congestion seemed to come back on Sunday so we started the prescription that night.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent sore throat and dizziness which is due to bacterial infection leading to strep throat. Sometimes infection spread from upper respiratory track infection to ear by eustachian tube and cause dizziness. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. You should take Diphenhydramine and Dextromethorphan for 4-5 days. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take you take nasal decongestant sprays, antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Lemon does not go along with sore throat it will exaggerate your symptoms. You should avoid it .Do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day and apply warm compresses on ear. Take ibuprofen one tablet twice daily. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Throat lozanges one every 4 hours is helpful. Drink luke warm water throughout the day as it can provide relief.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
