Suggest Treatment For Persistent Swelling On Knee After Injury
I took two hard hits (soccer) to my knee in July. My knee stayed swollen for a month. Finally it was almost back to the normal size. Two weekends ago I was playing soccer and lightly hit it on the ground again, it instantly swelled up. Two weeks later I m in extreme and pain and it is still swollen. My who leg hurts from my thigh to my calf. Most of the pain is is in the inner part of my left knee. I have been icing it and it only numbs the pain temporarily. Should I have it looked at or should I hold out and keep icing?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling in knee after history of trauma to the knee indicates soft tissue injury to the knee joint. Icing and pain killers will only relieve the pain temporarily. A MRI of the joint is required to assess the soft tissues of the knee joint - The cartilages, ligaments, tendons and the muscles constitute the soft tissues around the knee joint. The soft tissues have to be assessed because they can get injured after trauma. If there is any evidence of injury to soft tissues, appropriate action will be taken.
