Hello and welcome to HCM,
Bursting up of the pilonidal cyst has only released the tension caused by collection of pus.
This is only temporary relief and the problem will soon recur.
The sinus or the tract formed will soon be filed with pus and there will be reappearance of pain.
So, in order to treat the pilonidal sinus completely, surgical excision of the sinus tract is necessary.
Once the tract will be removed surgically, collection of pus will not occur and thus symptoms of pain and infection will not recur.
The surgery for pilonidal sinus is safe and there is nothing to worry.

Thanks and take care
Dr Shailja Puri
