Suggest Treatment For Plugged Ears And Severe Cough Caused After Sinusitis

I am taking Augmentin for a sinus infection. I am also using codeine cough syrup at night flonase once daily and my rescue inhaler prn. My cough has gotten worse and have a thick, discolored mucous that is sticky. I have one more day of Augmentin. What kind of expectorant can I use? My nasal sinuses and lungs are clear but both mu ears are plugged.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Augmentin is an antibiotic, it will help fight the bacterial infection. As the cough has sticky mucus, then, yes, you should take an expectorant.

Can take herbal syrup containing thymus, eucalyptus, red poppy leaves, mallow extract, etc.

Continue with aerosol therapy twice daily. You can use normal saline or can add a steroid inhaler.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
