Hello,

Risperidone is an atypical anti-psychotic drug. This particular medicine is used to treat certain psychiatric conditions:
1) Schizophrenia
2) Asperger's syndrome
3) Acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder
4) Tourette syndrome
5) Autism
6) Post traumatic stress disorder

My suggestions for your brother are as follows:
1) Take him to the psychiatrist for follow up
2) Psychiatrist may change the medication or adjust the dosage to increase the efficacy
3) Psychiatrist will assess the improvement or deterioration clinically and note it down
4) Also, he requires cognitive and behavioral therapy which is very important
5) This therapy is offered by clinical psychologist
6) This therapy would help him assume his daily activities and also improves his condition

Please discuss about cognitive and behavioral therapy with your psychiatrist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
