Suggest Treatment For Post Nasal Drip And Painful Coughing

I had a sinus infection and developed post nasal drip. It has moved to my chest and I am coughing more and more. We are going on Day 5. My right lung and throat burn when I cough Or just breathe in. Why does my chest burn. I do have reactive airway disease and have had multiple episodes of both pneumonia and bronchitis.

Hi,

It sounds like you are experiencing symptoms of acute bronchitis, which can develop from a respiratory infection like a sinus infection. Post-nasal drip can irritate the airways and cause inflammation, leading to coughing and burning in the chest. It is important to treat the underlying infection and manage your symptoms to prevent further complications.

Some of the suggestions that can be followed to manage symptoms are:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, tea, and broth.
- Use a humidifier or take a steamy shower to help loosen mucus in the chest and relieve coughing.
- Avoid irritants such as smoke, dust, and pollution.
- Over-the-counter medications such as cough suppressants and expectorants may provide relief from coughing and chest congestion. However, it's best to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new medication.
- Pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help relieve chest discomfort.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you develop a fever or shortness of breath, seek medical attention promptly. Your healthcare provider may prescribe antibiotics if your symptoms are caused by a bacterial infection. In addition, if you have reactive airway disease, your provider may recommend using an inhaler or other medication to manage your symptoms and prevent further complications.
