Suggest Treatment For Posttherpetic Neuralgia In The Elderly
Thank you for your time. My 82 year old Mother has had post heretic neuralgia for more than 3 years. NOTHING seems to give her relief. She was always an active, independent woman. This is impacting her quality of life horribly. Is there anywhere in this huge country of ours that can help her pain?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain post herpetic neuralgia generally occurs when after viral infection the virus invades the nerve fibres and cause irregular firing of impulses leading to severe pain along the nerve route.. Consult a Neurologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise investigations like MRI scan while at times no investigation is needed.. You can be advised treatments like Lidocaine skin patches, capsaicin skin patches and also oral medicines like Narcotic pain killers, anti depressants Venlafaxine, Nortryptalineand anticonvulsants like Carbamazipine can help.. Steroid injections can also be helpful..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
