Hello,
Usually, when one family member has
pinworms in their stool, all of the other members of the family are treated also. If you, yourself, have been around this family, it is best that you be treated too.
Once the doctor knows one family member has pinworms(small white worms) he/she can give a prescription for everyone else in the house without having to see them in the office or use
pyrantel pamoate.
Pyrantel pamoate is available over-the-counter to treat pinworms. It should be given as a single dose and repeated in 2 weeks.
Hygienic prevention: bathe in the morning to remove the eggs of the worm from the anus, frequent hand washing, and clip fingernails.
Bed linens and underwear should be handled carefully, should not be shaken, and should be laundered promptly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
