Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Mentural Bleeding

Hi! I m a 27 year old female and I m on my 2nd month of the oral contraceptive Ortho Tri Cyclen low. I accidentally skipped a pill at the beginning of this month because I dropped it and lost it and now I ve been on my period for two weeks. I just want my period to stop at any cost. If I stop taking the pill will my period stop? What can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Prolonged menstruation can be due to hormonal or structural abnormality in the uterus. Although some medications can also interfere with it.

I would suggest, you seek gynaecologist’s advice on this. Get an ultrasound lower abdomen done and consult your doctor. She might suggest couple of blood tests if needed. To stop the bleeding, she will prescribe appropriate medications like traneximic acid as per requirement after examining you with all medical history. Do not stop any medicines by yourself that have been prescribed to you. Consult your doctor before doing so.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
