Suggest Treatment For Prostate Issues, Blood In Stools And Constipation

Hello, I ve had some prostate issue for a couple of years now. I m 59.5 years of age. Recently I ve had some blood in my semen. Some times it looks like fresh blood and other times it looks like old blood. Today I m constipated and after pushing for a while I finally passed some stools. Then I notice I had fresh blood discharged from my penis. I ve been taking cardura for the high blood pressure and for the bleeding. I m also policistic on my kidneys from I guess birth. My kidneys are very large but my numbers are good. I take cozaar for the kidneys. My prostate I think is giving me a trouble. Wondering what should I do. Thanks, Bill

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The blood in semen seems related to prostatitis through some sort of bacterial infection, usually gram negative E. Coli or others. Constipation may be in concern with

- Age related enzyme deficiency
- Gut flora disturbances
- Functional

Following measures will help you:
- High fiber intake
- Control of body weight, serum cholesterol level
- Avoid smoking if consuming
- Bulk forming laxative as Ispaghula husk
- Remain ambulatory with possible aerobic exercises as per the body permits
- Urine, semen culture report for infection management
- Get evaluated for blood sugar
- Serum urea, creatinine and other renal parameters also need evaluated as there is polycystic kidney syndrome

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
