Suggest Treatment For Pulmonary Embolism

I have been out of work since Jan 29th 2010. I then developed Pulmary embolism (3 clots in lungs and one in leg). The pulmunary doctor kept me off work until end of this week. My leg then flared up real bad and ortho doctor wants to do total knee replacement but pulmunary doctors wants me to wait 3 to 6 months. in the mean time i am not sure what to do? Will my long term dissability pay me to be off. i cannot hardly walk and am on strong pain meds? Do I stand a chance.
