General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on your description, your daughter seems to have a urinary tract infection caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. It is good that you have already started her on amoxiclav, which is a common antibiotic used to treat UTIs. To treat the infection, it is important to complete the full course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. Typically, the duration of treatment for a UTI is around 7-10 days, but this may vary depending on the severity of the infection and the child's response to treatment.

In addition to antibiotics, it is important to ensure that your daughter drinks plenty of fluids to help flush out the bacteria from her urinary tract. Encourage her to drink water and other fluids throughout the day. You can also give her cranberry juice, which has been shown to help prevent and treat UTIs. To prevent recurrent UTIs, make sure your daughter practices good hygiene habits, such as wiping from front to back after using the toilet and washing her genital area with mild soap and water. Encourage her to use the bathroom regularly and not to hold in her urine for long periods.

If your daughter's symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment, or if she develops a fever or severe abdominal pain, it is important to consult with your doctor as soon as possible, as this may indicate a more serious infection or complication.
