Greetings. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

I can assume that the recommendations given to you are regarding an ablation of the area that is "firing" these bursts of atrial arrhythmia. Well, it is true that the rate of success from this procedure is around 80% (reported up to 86% in a study coming from a developing country). If a certain area is found to be the culprit of these bursts of arrhythmia, then I would agree with her doctor and, also, recommend ablation to "fry" this area and be free of bursts of arrhythmia. Of course, there is also the alternative of keeping the control with medical treatment. There are some drugs from various anti-arrhythmic classes, that may help prevent and/or suppress these bursts, should they happen. Clearly, this is not a definitive solution, merely a good control of the rate, which helps when the firing happens, not to transmit the atrial rhythm to the ventricles. If this would happen, dangerous ventricular arrhythmias could be initiated. To sum up, I would recommend her to undergo the ablation. The choice is hers, of course.

I hope I was helpful. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Meriton
