Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My heart will randomly start beating hard (sometimes causes me to cough). It has only occurred the last week, and randomly throughout the day. I have not drank any caffeine, coffee, soda, energy drinks, etc. I only drink water and juices. I am only 19 years of age, no heart diseases are known in my family. I have not been doing any exercises that are new or different than normal. Is this an indication of an illness or something?
In your age rapid heart rates can be seen without any abnormality. And in majority of cases there is no need for treatment and it disappears soon. Anyway if you are very symptomatic I would advise you to see a cardiolagist and perform an ECG, holter monitoring, which is 24 hour ECG recording, is also advised in this case. With the help of this investigation your ECG is recorded during a day, and your doctor can see what's going on with your heart when you have palpitations.
Hope I could help you
Wishing you good health
