Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 58, a diabetic and on many meds. I ve been at a home and garden show today..walking for about 3 hours straight...we went to dinner at Red Lobster, then walked it off at Target..my problem is that my resting heart rate is 119, right now...the center of my chest feels a bit tight, like when I need my mid back adjusted..my partner did adjust it a bit, but my heart rate hasn t lowered. I took my evening meds at about 9, including a baby aspirin, so I m surprised that this is happening. Should I get to the ER? YYYY@YYYY
Hi welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern. Rapid heart rate in your case is due to stress induced cardiac conduction blocks.I advise you to have a baseline 2 dimensional echocardiography,ECG and lipid profile to assess the basic cardiac reserve of your heart.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6g/day.Regular physical exercise in the form of brisk walk for 20 min a day for 5 days a week is pretty useful.Drugs like antihypertensives and antiarrhythmics will help. You may need an Electro physiological study with or without radio frequency ablation will be the procedure of choice.Reduce the intake of fatty and fried food. One pomegranate a day will help to keep your heart at good pace without clot formation. Consult a Cardiologist for further expert management.Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
