Suggest Treatment For Rashes And Swollen Lips While On Gabapentin

I was taking Gabapentin for a neurological remedy and felt it was causing a breathing problem with my throat including coughing and wheezing. I reduced my 3 pills 3x s per day to 3 pills 2 times a day and now starting today I have stopped. I have never had sezures, but am wondering if by stopping this medication if it would cause an allergic reaction. I had a rash and swollen lips today after drinking V-8 at lunch. Could these have anything to do with one-another?

Hi..

Well stopping Gabapentin will not lead to allergy symptoms, however it can be due to some other thing that is causing an allergic reaction..

Swelling of lip along with a rash can be due to Allergic reaction causing Allergic Angioedema of lips....

It can be due to any food or medication while other causes can be allergic reaction to any skin cosmetic, soap, lip balm etc..

I would suggest you to consult a Physician and get evaluated and a clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests for allergies like RAST TEST, Patch test, Food Challenge test can help in ruling out the exact cause of the symptoms and treat accordingly.

Do cool compresses over the lips .
You can be advised oral and injectable steroids and antihistamines to reduce swelling..
