Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Heart Palpitations

My heart stopped beating for about 5 seconds when I was in the store and I started to feel dizzy and lightheaded, I got very scared and couldn't feel my pulse. Then it started again. This has happened to me a few times in the last 6 months. Should I be concerned?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain you that your clinical scenario seems compatible with possible heart rhythm and/or conductance disturbances (for ex. ectopic heart beats? possible sinus node exit block with prolonged sinus node recovery time? or AV block?)

To investigate which of the above mentioned options is responsible for your symptomatology, it is recommended to perform a medical check up by your doctor (cardiologist or internist), as we have to do with a serious health disorder.

A comprehensive physical examination, coupled with a resting ECG and some additional lab tests (complete blood count, fasting glucose, lectrolytes, etc) are necessary to exclude underlying cardiac or systemic disorders. A cardiac ultrasound if suspicions are raised, and ESPECIALLY an ambulatory 24 to 48 hours ECG monitoring will be necessary t ostudy possible rhythm and conductance disorders.

So, my advice is to immediately discuss with your attending doctor about your complains and find the right solutions for diagnosis and properly managing this health issue.

Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
