I am currently experiencing a recurrence of my ulcerative colitis. I am 64 years old and this is my third episode. The first time was in Feb/2007, and the second time was in May/2010. Those past two times It was cleared up with medication -- Asacol HD tablets for 4 or 5 weeks along with Rowasa enemas for the first week or so. This time I would hope and expect that when I see my colon surgeon/specialist, he will give me the same prescriptions. However, my prescription drug coverage company, Express Scripts, says they no longer cover Asacol HD, and recommend that I talk to my doctor about changing my prescription from Asacol HD, to their covered formulary medications of either Apriso and/or Balsalazide. Which medication(s) do you feel would be best? Thank You -- Bill --
