Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Acne is chronic and new lesions can recur while older ones are healing; this is a common complaint in those who have acne.
Treatment of active acne should be according to the severity of acne.
Topical treatment is with topical antibacterials like clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide and topical retinoids e.g adapalene.
Oral antibiotics e.g Doxycycline Or Azithromycin may also be required in addition for inflammatory acne.
Once acne activity is well controlled with oral and topical treatment, maintenance treatment may still be required to prevent new acne from erupting, specially in those who relapse soon after stopping treatment.
Topical retinoids are ideally suited for maintenance of improvement. They are comedolytic and therefore prevent new acne formation.
For this purpose topical retinoids, adapalene or tretinoin, may be used every alternate days or twice weekly.
I will suggest that you seek another appointment with your dermatologist regarding the same.

Regards
