Suggest Treatment For Recurring Wheezing, Fever And Cough

My daughter is age 7, she was born at 38 weeks gestation, but the umbilical cord was not working as it should and did not supply her with the full nutrition. She was born with 30% lung development. Since then she was hospitalized with wheezing for 12 days at 6 months old. Then has used nebulizers and inhalers since age 1 year till today. She has seen lung specialist due to immediate cough, low oxygen, wheezing and fever. The nebulizers work often, but once we stop them and continue with the inhalers she starts up with the symptoms about every month. I wanted to know about what more could be causing these symptoms. She was diagnosed with asthma last year. Our biggest problem is that the mucus starts by the end of the day she is running a fever, usually vomiting the mucus. This happens about every month to 6 weeks. What more can we do or are we missing something with her treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern. I feel b cause she had less development of lungs at birth (might have increased by now).
-proper assessment of her lung function to be done with consultation an expert.
-Excessive mucus production dictates some infection/allergy which needs to be found & specifically treated /excluded.

Please consult a chest specialist/allergy specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
